Board Initiative

Wellesley is known for the power of its alumnae network.  In an effort to put that into action, the BLC's Board Initiative draws upon the happy circumstance that its members are unusually well placed to hear of board opportunities--which are infamously hard to access if you're not already on a board—to refer oother members for consideration for these coveted slots.

In a little over a year, we have placed two members on an insurance company board, two on a prestigious advisory board, and several referrals are under consideration now.

Here's how it works:  If you hear of a board opportunity, tell the company (or its lawyer or CPA) that you have access to a highly qualified pool of female candidates, then get a description of the opportunity to Cyndi Glassman, the initiative's chair and the BLC office. They 'll circulate the opportunity to the membbership and invite qualified applicants to submit their resumes, which will go to you.  You can submit all or some of the resumes. See "Guidelines".

If you're interested in applying for a posted opportunity, just send your resume to the BLC Office (include a short email explaining how you fit well if appropriate) and she'll do the rest.  See "Guidelines".

Be on the alert for opportunities to share with the membership.  Promising conversation often begin when you overhear "there just aren't that many qualified women"--that's your chance to jump in and offer to supply a list!

If you have questions about the process, please contact Cyndi Glassman, Board Initiative Chair.
